What’s it Like?

People often ask me what it is like to build, and live, in a town that is so closely connected to a movie studio. I have to be honest and say it is pretty amazing. Pinewood Atlanta Studios has been home to some of the most successful films in the history of the world including Marvel’s Infinity Wars, End Game, Spiderman Homecoming, Ant Man, Captain America Civil War and many more. It is remarkable that these movies that have been viewed all over the world are being filmed right across the street. For those who live at Pinewood Forest, it is a regular occurrence to get a notice from the studio warning about upcoming explosions or ground shaking experiences. Although our residents don’t get behind the scenes views inside the studio, we do get to live and work every day with people from the industry who are creating stories that are being told on a huge stage. One Saturday afternoon I received a call from one of our staff members who said that “Thor” was walking through our Farmer’s Market and wanted to know what we should do. Obviously, the right answer was to allow that actor, who is also a husband and a father, enjoy his family time uninterrupted. I was really pleased to learn that our residents did just that. While it is not an everyday experience to see A-List Actors walking the streets or hanging out in a coffee shop, it can be lots of fun to meet a young production assistant (PA) or someone from make-up or wardrobe or lighting or catering or transportation or security, or set builders, or so many other regular people who spend their life creating stories. No, you don’t have to be part of the film industry to live at Pinewood Forest, and in fact, most of our residents do not. What you may have to learn is how to stay calm and act like it’s no big deal when a superhero holds open a door for you.
